Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,
Welcome to our first newsletter for 2023. At school we have found the children have all settled back into the routines of school. We hope they have at home as well.
Already this term we have held a number of events with more to come. Last week we held our Opening School Mass which was a beautiful celebration. A special mention to our Foundation students, who for many were attending mass for the first time. You were all extremely reverent.
Next week we will be holding our Ash Wednesday Mass on Wednesday at St Michael’s at 9.30am for students in year 1-6. All parents are invited to attend.
Mrs Phillips & I will once again be cooking pancakes for all students on Shrove Tuesday. Please ensure any dietary needs are emailed to principal@stgtraralgon.catholic.edu.au prior to Monday 20th February.
PAM Accounts
By now you should have received an email to reset your password for your PAM account. Existing families please note you old details will no longer work. You are required to reset your password via the link sent in the email. If you are experiencing difficulties with your PAM account please email principal@stgtraralgon.catholic.edu.au with the details of the issue.
We are looking forward to another fantastic year of partnership with you in educating your children.
Kind regards
Michelle
Signing children in and out of school and Absentee notifications
If your child needs to leave early, or has an appointment, then parents must sign them out and back in when they return. A note is to be supplied to the classroom teacher so that they are aware of why the child is leaving and they can then record the absence. Alternatively this can be entered as PNA via PAM.
If your child is unwell, to speed up their recovery we recommend keeping your child at home until they are fully recovered.
Absentee notifications can be entered via PAM up to seven days, if you will be away longer that this you will be required to contact the office on 5174 5515.
Please note all absentee notifications must be completed via a Parent Notified Absence in PAM prior to 9.30am. If we have not received notification you will be sent a message via SMS with regards to your student/s being absent for the day you will need to phone the admin office on 5174 5515 to advise the reason why the student is absent as this is a legal requirement.
St Gabriel's Uniform Shop
The St. Gabriel's Uniform shop operates Tuesday 8.15am - 9.30am and Thursday from 2pm - 4pm. Order forms are available at the school office if you are unable to attend the uniform shop during these times.
The Uniform Shop is located at the rear of the school hall off the hall foyer.
Working With Children Check
If you have recently updated your WWCC please provide a copy of your new card to the office at your earliest convenience.
If you are a volunteer providing your valued service to St Gabriel's please ensure that we have a current up to date card on file.

February 2023
Traralgon District Swimming Championships:
On Tuesday 14th February 30 swimmers from St Gabriel’s competed in the Traralgon District Swimming Championships at the Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre. All swimmers displayed great endeavour and wonderful sportsmanship on the day. At the end of the Carnival St Gabriel’s was presented with the winning shield for the event with St Pauls Anglican Grammar finishing in 2nd Place. On Wednesday 8th of March, 17 swimmers from St Gabriels will compete in the Division Championship to be held at the Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre. I would like to thank Miss Johnson, Mrs Mihaly and Miss Hayes for supervising and coordinating the swimmers on the day. And a special thank you to parents who volunteered to assist as timekeepers on the day: Emma Marino and Emily Couling.
Collingwood Football Clinic
Last Tuesday, 4 Collingwood players held a 45 minute football clinic with all the students from Year 3. Tom Mithcell, Ed Allan, Will Kelly and Isaac Quaynor helped the students in fine tuning their skills in kicking, handballing and reflexes. At the end of the clinic the students were able to ask the players some inquisitive questions about being a professional football player. I would like to thank Mrs Charlton for organising this event for the school.
Netball Registrations -
St Gabriel’s netball club is excited to continue its partnership with Traralgon netball association in 2023 in the upcoming winter competition. Registration forms can be found at the front office at the school or Mr Hogan’s office. For further details please contact Erin Marsham the SGNC President of the club.
Sporting Achievement: Swimming
From the 21 - 23 January 2023, Aliza Couling, Bailey Heafield, Harry Kurrle and Harry Giblett took part in the 2023 Long Course Country Championships at the Wangaratta outdoor pool and swam for the Traralgon Swimming club..
This is one of the largest events on the Swimming Victoria calendar and each of these students had to meet very quick times to qualify for the meet.
Aliza qualified for 5 events, Bailey qualified in one event, Harry Kurrle qualified in 4 events and Harry Giblett qualified in one event.
Harry Kurrle made three finals including finishing 4th in the Boys 11 & U 50 Butterfly. Aliza Couling made two finals and finished with a Bronze medal in the Girls 11&U 50 Breaststroke.
The school would like to congratulate all four swimmers from St Gabriel’s on your outstanding achievements in swimming over the school holidays.
