Dear parents and carers,
Congratulations everyone on a smooth transition to remote learning once again. The return to school was greatly anticipated and welcomed by everyone. It was especially pleasing to see the students out playing together and running around in the sunshine on the few days that we have had sunny weather. There are still some restrictions in place concerning the school community but each week we look forward to more easing of these. Masks still need to be worn on site, except for the students, and density quotients are still in force. I am pleased to say that interschool sports and school swimming is now allowed.
Parent/teacher/student interviews are scheduled for week 8. We will hold these either in person, by phone or on line depending on the circumstances at the time. Please make your appointment time as usual, when this is available to you, and we will inform you how it will be done as the time gets closer.
On Wednesday the whole school enjoyed a green and gold day in support of our Olympians. Thanks to the students and teachers for getting into the spirit of the day.
We will continue to try to keep you informed about any changes to normal school routine in a timely manner.
Best wishes,
Roslyn Joyner

The resumption of any interschool sport was made on the advice from the Department of Health and that it is considered safe to do so. Parents are able to access the SSV website for the status of all events held in Victoria at www.ssv.vic.edu.au Unfortunately spectators are unable to attend any current inter school sport competitions.

The following students Sierra Colantuono and Dempsey Podmore from grade 5 have made it through to compete in the State Cross Country Championships to be held at the Yarra Valley Racing Club. This event was scheduled for today, Thursday 5th of August but has been postponed due to COVID restrictions. At the Regional Championships at Warragul Sierra finished in 3rd place in the U/11 age group whilst Dempsey Podmore also in the u/11 age group finished in 2nd place . All of our nine students who competed on the day can hold their heads up high as they showed great sportsmanship and determination on the day
Jump Rope for Heart - (Fund raising Activity)
Tomorrow all the students will receive a pamphlet detailing our school taking part in the Jump Rope for Heart skipping and fundraising program. The aim of the program is to get students physically active, whilst learning about the importance of healthy behaviours to look after their health and at the same time, they’ll give back to the community by raising funds to help save Australian hearts. All you have to do is register your child online at jumprope.org.au/parents. Then share your child’s page with friends and family and ask them to donate and finally log your child's skipping activity so they can earn prizes and virtual badges. The school will have a special skipping event at school during the week of Monday 16th August to- Friday 20th August. More details about this skipping event will be sent home via SeeSaw next week. If you have any concerns with this information please email me at dhogan@stgtraralgon.catholic.edu.au
Green & Gold Day
What a great day we had at St Gabriel’s dressed in our green and gold uniform . I would like to thank all the students for creating a great team atmosphere at school . The Olympics have given all of us a great focus and a positive mindset in these uncertain times of COVID. I would like to thank Mrs DiCorleto who initiated this activity for the school and I would like to thank Miss Kindellan for putting together an inspirational video clip of the day for everyone to see at the school assembly via the zoom meeting.

Keep up the good work!Kid's Co-Designing Healthy Places - Latrobe City Council
Latrobe City Council are currently developing the next Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing plan and we want children and young people in Latrobe to have their voices heard.
One way we are doing this, is through an online toolkit that includes a survey and a quick audit. Children and young people in Latrobe are being asked to complete the survey (which will only take 10 minutes) and then either take photos, draw a picture, write a poem or write a list of words about your neighbourhood as a word cloud (there are examples of audit submissions in the online toolkit).
These survey results and audit submissions will then be discussed with children and young people in Latrobe as part of a co-design process of creating healthy places in Latrobe.
It would be a great classroom activity of you are looking for some health and wellbeing work with your students. Thank you to the schools that have already participated in the survey, we really appreciate it.
It is also something that students can complete in their own time at home with a parent/carer. For that reason, please find attached information for your school newsletter, it would be great if you could share it to spread the word to your families.
Please don’t hesitate to contact myself or Audrey Matthews (0428 179 784) if you have any questions.
Latrobe City Council operates on the traditional land of the Braiakaulung people of the Gunaikurnai nation.
St. Gabriel's Book Fair will be held on 23rd August to 27th August, more details to come.
